Solutions Architect

The Solution Architect (SA) provides technical leadership for agile teams and defines and communicates a shared technical vision for the solution under development. The SA is able to architect end to end solutions by understanding and translating client needs into technical solutions.  The solutions architect is responsible for identification and selection of appropriate services based on requirements and constraints, has deep subject matter expertise, and can evaluate new technologies for fit in current infrastructure architecture or design new infrastructure architecture. In-depth understanding of insurance business processes and terminology is essential along with many years of working experience with insurance clients.

  • Defines the technical and architectural vision for the solution under development by technical trade-offs and analysis of alternatives
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of company’s strategic business plans in the insurance industry
  • Continuously evolve solution architecture with input and feedback from Application Architects and Software Engineering
  • Outlines the primary components and interfaces of the solution, and their interactions. Takes the lead role in interfacing with teams external to the program
  • Plans and develops the architecture runway enablers by supporting research, prototyping, and other activities needed to explore prospective solutions and evaluate alternatives
  • Works with Product Manager, Product Owners and Application Architects and Software engineering to elaborate product requirements into technical requirements which are used to develop stories that can be estimated accurately
  • Participates in Scrum of Scrums to understand and remove architectural impediments/blockers
  • Participates in Solution Demo and program planning and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Requirements


Formal Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, system analysis, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Advanced knowledge of insurance terminology and business processes is highly desired
  • Over five years of work experience in the insurance industry is required
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Lean Startup, XP) and cross-functional teams (Product Managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, Developers, Designers, Business Analysts) preferred
  • Advanced knowledge writing system and user specifications/documentation
  • Advanced knowledge of public cloud platforms, API, microservices, event-based architectures preferred
  • Excellent understanding of typical multi-tier architectures: web servers, caching, application servers, load balancers, and storage
  • Understanding of Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) and NoSQL
  • Knowledge of message queuing and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)
  • Familiarity with loose coupling and stateless systems
  • Understanding of different consistency models in distributed systems
  • Knowledge of Content Delivery Networks (CDN)
  • Hands-on experience with core LAN/WAN network technologies
  • Experience with route tables, access control lists, firewalls, NAT, HTTP, DNS, IP and OSI Network
  • Knowledge of RESTful Web Services, XML, JSON
  • Expert knowledge with the software development lifecycle
  • Work experience with information and application security concepts, mechanisms, and tools
  • Awareness of end-user computing and collaborative technologies
  • Large-scale distributed systems architecture
  • System performance tuning
  • Information and application security concepts including public key encryption, remote access, access credentials, and certificate-based authentication

Work Conditions

  • Overtime hours as required
